Hey everyone!
Now that I am back home I thought I would finally sit down and tell our proposal story. It all started a couple months prior when I mentioned to Shane that he needed to let me know when to start getting “proposal friendly” manicures. If you know me you know that I love to get elaborate nail art manicures! Although, I knew for a proposal I’d prefer a more neutral look. Shane told me that I should start getting more neutral manicures and it would happen when it happens. I was hoping for more of a hint than that but I just took his advice!
We had a trip to Florida planned for Boxing Day so on December 22nd I went to the salon and got a gold french manicure. I had a slight feeling that these could be my proposal nails but I didn’t want to get my hopes up. Christmas day rolls around and we have a lovely dinner with my family. Shane headed home and we both attempted to get to bed early because we needed to be up at 5AM. Little did I know Shane went home to let his parents, sister (Caleigh) and her fiancée (Daniela) know that he was proposing to me the next day! Caleigh and Daniela were joining us for a week in Florida and they were so excited to be apart of it.
I headed to the airport on my own and Shane, Caleigh and Daniela met me there. They got there a bit earlier to go through security so I wouldn’t get suspicious. Fun fact: a man working at security saw the engagement ring in the x-ray machine and told Shane “good luck”. I thought that was so sweet! Anyways, we get on the flight and we all slept most of the way after that early morning.
Once we landed we headed to the car rental area. Daniela pulled me off to the side to ask if we could all be ready for sunset because she was going to propose to Caleigh. A bit of a backstory: Caleigh had proposed to Daniela back in November but I knew that Daniela also wanted to propose to Caleigh at some point so this was believable. I was a bit confused because we were going to be at Shane and I’s favourite location but again I didn’t want to get my hopes up that it was a cover up.
We then headed to our hotel in Miami to get ready. Shane was kind of rushing me to be ready for a certain time so we could all get pictures at sunset. I was basically dressing up assuming it *might* be our proposal but I wasn’t sure as their cover up was pretty believable. We then headed to Eden Roc Miami Beach to take the photos before our dinner reservation at our favourite restaurant, Nobu. We started walking through the hotel toward the back and then out to the beach.
Daniela and Caleigh told us they’d take some photos of Shane and I first. After a few minutes into the pictures I started to pull away so they could take their pictures and so Daniela could propose. Shane then pulled me back toward him and said to Daniela and Caleigh: “are you ready?”. It was then that I realized that this was indeed Shane and I’s proposal! I was so excited and shocked as they really did have a great cover story for it all.
Shane got down on one knee and forgot everything he wanted to say besides “Will you marry me?” but it was absolutely perfect in every way! The sunset could not have been better, we had perfect weather and the ring was EXACTLY what I had always dreamed of. It was such a magical moment so naturally I teared up. Caleigh and Daniela had bought champagne for us to all celebrate on the beach and the people surrounding were all applauding. It was so special.
We then headed back toward the pool area of Eden Roc to call both of our parents and my grandparents to share the exciting news. Everyone was thrilled for us and it made it that much more exciting! It was then time for our dinner reservation at Nobu (just when I thought this day couldn’t get any better). We had a delicious meal and reminisced about all the planning that Shane had done since August to make this all come to fruition. It was truly the perfect day and I’m so so thankful. I hope you enjoyed our proposal story!
